The old landform vs. body of water conundrum...
Setting the scene: I have just finished reading a non-fiction book about rivers. I sit down with D's little sister to write a sentence about how we use rivers.
Me: What do you want to say about how we use rivers?
D2: For mountains.
Me: We use rivers for mountains?
D2: Yes?
Me: How do mountains need rivers?
D2: Because they are pointy.
Me: That they are.

Makes perfect sense to me. What she was actually saying was that rivers wear away rock. You may be unaware that, originally, all mountains were flat, but with the help of water and gravity, the runoff created the pointed shape we see today.
She was dumbing it down so the other kids wouldn't make fun of her.
